Curaçao cruise port guide: what to do in your hours ashore

Willemstad has two cruise berths, both on the Otrobanda side of the harbour. Large ships use the Mega Pier on the open coast next to the Rif Fort; smaller ships tie up at the older Curaçao Cruise Terminal at the entrance of St. Anna Bay. From either one you walk to the Queen Emma pontoon bridge and the painted waterfront of Punda, a UNESCO World Heritage area. The beaches are on the south coast east of town or far out west, so for a swim you take a taxi.

Opening hours

Shops in Punda and Otrobanda are generally open Monday to Saturday from about 8:00/9:00 to 18:00. Restaurants on the waterfront and beach clubs open daily.

On Sundays most shops in town are closed, but a good part of Punda and the Rif Fort open their doors when a cruise ship is in.

Weather

Daytime highs of 30–32°C all year. Hot, dry and breezy all year; Curaçao lies south of the main hurricane track, and most rain falls in short showers between October and January.

45 min from the pier · ≈33 km · plan 5 h+

Cactus scrubland, the island's highest hill and, next door, the blowholes and wave-cut inlets of Shete Boka on the wild north coast. The summit trail opens only early in the day because of the heat; on a cruise day a guided west-end tour is more realistic.

Frequently asked questions

Where do cruise ships dock in Curaçao?

At the Mega Pier next to the Rif Fort in Otrobanda, or for smaller ships at the Curaçao Cruise Terminal at the mouth of St. Anna Bay. Both are a short walk from the Queen Emma Bridge to Punda.

Which beach is closest to the Curaçao cruise port?

Mambo Beach and the beaches around the Sea Aquarium, about 15 minutes by taxi. The famous west-end coves such as Grote Knip are 45 minutes or more away.

Do I need guilders in Curaçao?

No. US dollars and cards are accepted almost everywhere; you may get change in Caribbean guilders. Small dollar notes are handy for taxis and beach entry.

What if the Queen Emma Bridge is open when I need to get back?

The bridge swings aside for passing ships, sometimes for a while. A free ferry runs across St. Anna Bay meanwhile, but leave yourself extra time if you are in Punda close to all-aboard.

Curaçao cruise traffic: 881,665 cruise passengers in 2025 (Curaçao Ports Authority).
