Roatán cruise port: what to do in 6 hours
Your ship is in port for 6 hours or so? Once you subtract getting off, the way back and a margin before all aboard, you have roughly 4 to 5 hours to enjoy. This is what a 6-hour stop makes possible.
Best use of 6 hours
- West End and Half Moon Bay (3.5 h, 25 min away): A laid-back village of dive shops, cafés and bars along a sandy road, with the small, sheltered beach of Half Moon Bay at its north end. Good for a slow lunch by the water.
- Reef snorkelling trip (3.5 h, 25 min away): Roatán sits on the Mesoamerican Reef, and boats from West End and West Bay reach healthy coral within minutes. Many trips include transport from the cruise port. A marine park fee may be charged.
- West Bay Beach (4 h, 25 min away): Roatán's long white beach, with calm water and a reef close enough to snorkel from the sand. Resorts and beach bars rent loungers. The busiest place on the island on ship days.
- Little French Key (4.5 h, 25 min away): A small private island off the south coast with a beach, restaurant and animal enclosures, reached by a short boat ride. Entry includes the boat; food and drinks extra.
Also fits, with time to spare
Coxen Hole on foot (1.5 h), Daniel Johnson's Monkey and Sloth Hangout (2.5 h), Arch's Iguana and Marine Park (2.5 h), Gumbalimba Park (3 h), Zip-line canopy tour (3 h). You could combine two of these.
